Mervin Smith, Mechanical and Fleet Supervisor
Tom Bowden, Chargehand
The Town of New Glasgow Mechanical Department is the largest Municipal Mechanical Department in Nova Scotia, excluding the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
- The department has four full time mechanics, all four being Automotive Mechanics and Truck and Transport Mechanics, three with Heavy Duty Mechanic certifications, and one certified Emergency Vehicle Technician.
- Our mechanics handle over one hundred internal pieces of equipment, as well as providing mechanical services to other towns within Pictou County, to CHAD Bus Service, and to various nursing homes throughout Pictou County.
- The Town of New Glasgow takes great pride in having a mechanical staff with expertise to provide vehicle specification and mechanical diagnosis, and to repair a wide variety of equipment, from emergency Police and Fire vehicles, to snow plows, graders, and a bus fleet.
- The department uses modern diagnostic equipment at a well-maintained Mechanical Shop at our Public Works facility on East River Road, New Glasgow.
