Mechanical Department Supervisor
Mervin has over 30 years of experience and service in the municipal field, having worked with the Town of New Glasgow from 1974 to 1979, with the Town of Westville from 1988 to 1995, and then with the Town of New Glasgow since 1995, and he has been involved in all facets of Public Works. He has recently rejoined our Mechanical Department, after previously being Supervisor from 1995 to 2000. Mervin has also worked in the Woodland Division of Scott Paper (now Northern Pulp).
Mervin is a certified Nova Scotia Red Sealed Truck & Transport Mechanic, Red Sealed Parts Person, NSCC Mechanical Drafting, and a Certified Wheel & Rim Installer. He is trained and experienced in the following: sweeper maintenance & repair, both turbine and vane vacuum trucks, and Fleet Management. He has worked nine years directly in fleet, with an additional seven years of mechanical work.
Since Water Treatment has also been an important aspect of Mervin’s career, he has obtained his Level 3 in Water Treatment, Level 2 in Water Distribution, and Level 2 in both Waste Water Treatment and Collection, as well as taking numerous correspondence courses from California State University, including Utility Management, Manage for Success, Surface Water Treatment 1, and Surface Water Treatment 2.
Mervin is a member of the Canadian Public Works Association, the Municipal Public Works Association of Nova Scotia, and Atlantic Canada Water Works Association. He is also a Survey Technician.
Mervin and his wife Charlene reside in Westville, and have a grown daughter and son.
