The Major Crime Unit is responsible for investigating serious crimes, such as sexual assault, break and enter, theft over $5000, fraud, armed robbery, homicide, and sudden death. The Unit works hand-in-hand with the Patrol Section PCISCEU and also has a close working relationship with various municipal police agencies and RCMP detachments within the Province of Nov Scotia.

New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime Unit often joins forces with these agencies to combat criminal activities in the community. These partnerships are often referred to as Joint Force Operations or J.F.O.’s
