2017/02/14 7:10am Media Release- UPDATE: New Glasgow Regional Police advice motorists and pedestrians that due to winter weather conditions if you have to travel plan ahead

This morning the New Glasgow region continues to be under a Blizzard Warning that has brought a significant amount of snow to the area.


New Glasgow Regional Police officers have currently reported at 2017/02/14 at 7:10am that streets, roads and sidewalks continue to be snow covered and some road and streets may be down to one lane. In addition, some areas are experiencing blowing snow conditions causing reduced visibility.


If you have to travel today, plan ahead, check weather conditions, cancellations, delayed openings, and drive to the conditions. Some sidewalks are not plowed and pedestrians that need to travel should also walk with extreme caution.
Residents are advised that the winter parking ban will be enforced during the night and early mornings from 1am to 7am to allow Public Works crews to properly clear the streets and sidewalks throughout the towns. Vehicles must also be off streets under section 139 of the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act where tickets can be issued and vehicles can be towed any time, day or night, if vehicles are parked in a way that interferes with snow clearing. It is critical that vehicles are removed from streets and sidewalk areas during the snow storm to allow crews to safely maintain priority streets and emergency routes.

The New Glasgow region is currently under a Blizzard Warning that will bring a significant snow accumulation expected between this afternoon, tonight and the early into Tuesday morning.

New Glasgow Regional Police officers have currently reported at 2017/02/13 at 12:40pm that a significant accumulation of snow and blowing snow conditions causing reduced visibility on streets and roads. White out conditions have resulted throughout patrol.

Keep informed of changing treacherous weather conditions, cancellations, and street and road conditions avoid travel when possible. Travel conditions have deteriorated throughout Nova Scotia and are expected to do the same in the New Glasgow region.

Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning for the New Glasgow region in anticipation of a severe weather system that is expected to create treacherous winter conditions, with a significant snow accumulation expected between midnight tonight and the early morning hours on Tuesday.

Keep informed of changing treacherous weather conditions, cancellations and street and road conditions before you travel on Monday.
