The Town of New Glasgow supports the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination which is held annually on March 21. Here is the proclamation signed by Mayor Nancy Dicks on behalf of the Council and citizens of New Glasgow. This year the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (CCUNESCO) launched a nationwide social media campaign to raise public awareness about racism and discrimination and the role we all have to play in eliminating it. The campaign is built on and around the hashtag #ItStartsWithMe and the idea of “wearing red against racism and discrimination”. As a member of CCUNESCO, New Glasgow is already committed to taking action to create welcoming and inclusive communities and we hope this campaign will spark interest and serve in the community as a tool to ignite discussions. We invite citizens and businesses to join us in taking part in the social media campaign with the hashtag #ItStartsWithMe. Here the Mayor, CAO and Members of Council are pictured supporting red and endorsing the campaign- There is No Place for Racial Discrimination in My Community-It Starts With Me!
