As the commercial service center for northern Nova Scotia, New Glasgow offers many of the amenities found in larger urban centres. Our three commercial districts serve approximately 46,000 people daily and an extended population of 100,000 people. New Glasgow offers an ever-increasing amount of quality retail products and services that exceed that available in other communities of comparable size.
Downtown New Glasgow
Downtown New Glasgow is home to some of the finest gift, clothing and antique shops in the  area as well as a varied selection of cafes, delis, pubs, a cabaret and restaurants ranging from home style cooking to fine dining cuisine. Downtown is also home to financial institutions including chartered banks, brokerage houses, real estate companies, floral shop, insurance companies, computer-related businesses, health food stores, as well as community museums and art and photography studios. Also in the Downtown area is Glasgow Square Theatre, which is home to many impressive festivals as well as live concerts and theatre. The New Glasgow Library is also located in the downtown core and is a centre of community activities. Highland Square Mall and Westville Road
Highland Square Mall offers a selection of well-known retail stores, with over 60 retail and professional services outlets. Anchor stores Sears and Canadian Tire are located in Highland Square Mall, while a new and expanded Wal-mart opened adjacent to the mall in 2007. This mall is located in the heart of the Westville Road commercial district, which is home to Atlantic SuperStore and most major automotive retailers, a number of dining establishments and other specialized retailers, including: Dollarama, Dairy Queen, Harveys, Proudfoot’s Home Hardware, Swiss Chalet, Tim Horton’s and Wendy’s.
Westside Plaza, Stellarton Road & Abercrombie Road Areas
The Westside Plaza and Stellarton and Abercrombie Road areas also offers a small shopping district with services that range from quick service restaturants such as Greco Pizza and Subway to family dining, international cuisine, floral shop, photography studio, UP Store, custom jewellery design studio, to aesthetics salons, movie rentals, and banking services.
Aberdeen Shopping Centre and East River Road
Aberdeen Shopping Centre including Zellers, Sobeys, Central Supplies and Bennington’s provides an additional selection of well-known retail stores and also houses a number of professional services offices; it is found in the East River Road commercial district, which includes entertainment venues and dining experiences that range from fine dining to family dining and quick services, including: Kentucky Fried Chicken, Lawton’s, McDonalds, Pizza Delight, Subway, Shoppers Drug Mart, Empire Theatre Studio 7 and Heather Bowling Lanes.
