Her Honour the Honourable Mayann E. Francis, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia is pictured with Wanda Robson, youngest sister of Viola Desmond,during a special tribute to Viola Irene (Davis) Desmond hosted by the Town of New Glasgow during the 2010 Black Gala Homecoming. The portrait was commissioned jointly by the Town and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and will be permanently displayed in Government House. It was created by local artist David MacIntosh, who was born and raised in New Glasgow and is a resident of Pictou.

YOUNG ARTIST OPPORTUNITY Young Artist Opportunity Each Province and Territory will select three artists based on artistic excellence and ability to collaborate. The applicants will demonstrate artistic excellence and commitment to the creative development of their artistic practice. The successful applicants will become members of Team Nova Scotia for the Halifax 2011 Canada Games from February 11 to 27, 2011. A Volunteer Team Manager is needed for the young artists representing Nova Scotia at the Halifax 2011 Canada Games.
