New Glasgow is the largest town within the Pictou County region and its neighbouring communities are the towns of Stellarton, Westville, Trenton and Pictou. New Glasgow town boundaries also are adjacent to many of the rural communities that make up the Municipality of the County of Pictou. The area of Pictou County, pop. 48,780 is comprised of the six Municipal Units and a First Nation Band Council in Pictou Landing.

New Glasgow offers quality educational facilities, a regional hospital, a performing arts theatre, a full service marina, a stadium, groomed walking trails, year round recreational opportunities, a wide variety of accommodations and attractions as well as a multicultural environment that is prominent within the town. The Town of New Glasgow received a “Five Bloom” rating by the nationally recognized Communities in Bloom program in 2005 and was cited for its environmental stewardship, revitalization of the riverfront, and community involvement.  The town was also recognized for its heritage preservation and tidiness.
 
The Town manages the delivery of Fire, Police, Engineering/Public Works, Water, Recreation and Municipal Administration services. Partner organizations include the Pictou Regional Development Commission, Pictou County District Planning Commission, New Glasgow Development Commission, Riverfront Development Society, Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library and the Pictou County Tourist Association.
