New Glasgow Regional Police charge man with aggravated assault in New Glasgow

New Glasgow Regional Police has charged a man with aggravated assault in New Glasgow.
On August 23, at 2:30 a.m., New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a report of a stabbing that occurred at a local business on East River Road. NGRP investigation revealed that two adult males were involved in an altercation when one man assaulted the other with a knife.
The suspect fled the area upon police arrival.
A 46-year-old victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was later released from the Aberdeen Hospital.
On the same day, August 23, at 10:27a.m., New Glasgow Regional Pollice Major Crime Unit arrested 37-year-old James Michael Murchison and charged him with:
- Aggravated Assault
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Pictou on Monday August 25, 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
New Glasgow Regional Police seeking information after a suspicious fire in New Glasgow, N.S.

New Glasgow Regional Police are seeking information from the public in relation to a suspicious fire that occurred in New Glasgow.
On August 22, at 11:59 p.m., New Glasgow Regional Police, along with New Glasgow Fire Department, responded to a report of a fire at a residence in the 600 block on Little Harbour Road, New Glasgow. Two residents in one of the two apartments escaped uninjured as the fire was contained in the front of the residence. The other apartment residents were not home at the time of the suspicious fire.
The investigation is ongoing by the New Glasgow Regional Police, New Glasgow Fire Department and the Nova Scotia Fire Marshalls Office.

Motor Vehicle Collision leads to impaired driving charge

New Glasgow Regional Police has charged a Pictou County man with impaired driving, following a report of a motor vehicle collision on East River Road.
On Tuesday August 15, at 1:302 a.m., New Glasgow Regional Police on routine patrol responded to a motor vehicle collision where a Nissan Titan truck struck a set of traffic lights at a pedestrian crossing median on East River Road. Minutes prior to the collision, the same vehicle had struck a power pole at the intersection of Temperance Street and East River Road.
New Glasgow Fire Department attended with Nova Scotia Power.
The driver was sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Aberdeen Hospital by Emergency Health Services.

Christopher Neil 27 years of age from Pictou County years of age with,

He was released on an Undertaking and will be appearing in Provincial Court in Pictou on October 27, 202 New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate.
NGRP Charge a Man in Relation to a Hate Motivated Crime

New Glasgow Regional Police has charged a man in relation to a hate crime that occurred in New Glasgow.
On June 5th New Glasgow Regional Police received a report of a hate crime.
On June 6, 2025, New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a report of postings of online hate speech that occurred from a New Glasgow residence. Investigators from the New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime Unit learned that the man allegedly posted several hateful messages targeting Jewish communities.
At approximately 3:35 p.m., officers located the 22-year-old New Glasgow man and safely arrested him.
Luke Alexander McDonnell, 22 has been charged with
Advocating and Promoting Genocide. CC 318(1)
Public Incitement of Hatred. CC 319(1)
Willful Promotion Hatred. CC319(2)
The male was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Pictou on Monday June 9th, 2025, at 9:30 am.
The New Glasgow Regional Police are committed to thoroughly investigating hate-motivated crimes and unequivocally condemn these reprehensible acts.

Charges laid against New Glasgow Regional Police officer

On Monday, April 14, 2025, the New Glasgow Regional Police were advised that Kyle Lesko, a member of the New Glasgow Regional Police has been charged with sexual assault.
The charge stems from an alleged incident said to have occurred over 17 years ago that is being investigated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Kyle Lesko has been placed on leave, effective Monday, April 14, 2025.
Sexual assault allegations are serious and need to be treated with respect and sensitivity. Our priority is to ensure that all parties involved are supported through the judicial process. Understanding the profound impact these situations can have on individuals and our communities, we are committed to a fair, transparent and impartial approach.
