Blue Route Hubs Project

Blue Route Hubs ProjectThe Blue Route Hubs Project is a collaboration between Bicycle Nova Scotia (BNS) and several communities throughout the province, including the Town of New Glasgow. The project was launched to help communities evaluate their potential to develop cycling routes that make residents of all ages and people with disabilities feel comfortable cycling in their community. Bike Friendly Business ProgramPeople who choose cycling for primary or occasional transportation and people who choose to cycle on vacation are growing in numbers. Bicycle Nova Scotia’s Bike Friendly Business Certification Program can help your business stand out as a leader in providing service for customers or employees that want to arrive by bike. Get certified for free and Bicycle Nova Scotia will mail you a Bike Friendly Certified window decal to decorate your storefront and add your business to their online bicycling destination map. GO Play Equipment Loan Program

There are several different types of bicycles available for loan through the GO PLAY Pictou County Equipment Loan Program including regular bicycles, electric bicycles, tandem bicycles, and handcycles. Visit GO PLAY.

The Town of New Glasgow is happy to be a partner of the Pictou County Bikes for Kids Program. Bikes for Kids collects, repairs, and distributes bikes to children in need throughout Pictou County. Keep up to date with the program via the Bikes for Kids Pictou County Facebook page.

Fixit Station

There is a Fixit Station (bicycle repair station) at the New Glasgow Library!The Fixit Station includes all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. The tools are securely attached to the stand with stainless steel cables and there is even an air pump! Winter Bike Week 

Winter Bike Week is a seven-day celebration of winter cycling in New Glasgow that takes place annually during the second week of February. The main feature of Winter Bike Week is the Light Ride, a family-friendly community bike ride starting and ending at Rotary Park. The after party at the park includes a campfire, s’mores, hot chocolate, and an opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow cycling enthusiasts.

June is Bike Month!

Celebrate cycling all month long in June! The main feature of Bike Month is the Ice Cream Ride, a family-friendly community bike ride starting at the Kinsmen Lookoff. We cycle along the Samson and Albion Trails to Corina’s Ice Cream Parlour to enjoy a cone before heading back. Other cycling events and promotions take place throughout the month – check in often so you don’t miss out!

Active Transporttion Plan

The Town of New Glasgow is committed to achieving its vision of a community where active transportation is the easy choice for people of all ages and abilities. The Active Transportation Plan outlines how the Town of New Glasgow will advance work towards a safe and accessible Active Transportation Network for people who walk, roll and bike.
