Make Your Move in May!

Make Your Move New Glasgow is all about encouraging and celebrating simple movement as part of everyday life, like choosing to walk or bike instead of driving, gardening, household chores, taking the stairs and parking a bit further away from your destination.   • Summer Activity Card (May 1-August 31): Complete any 15 of the 25 activities and cross them off. E-mail with a photo of your card or a list of your completed activities for a chance to win prizes!
  • Flourish After Dark (May 2 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.): Check out the Make Your Move New Glasgow table at Flourish After Dark for a chance to win a MYMNG prize, learn more about MYMNG and register for the Community Movement Challenge starting on May 9th!
  • Walk-N-Roll (Mondays 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.): Join Make Your Move New Glasgow and Trenton Parks & Recreation for a safe walk with a mobility device (bring your own) around the main theatre at Glasgow Square Theatre each Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., starting January 19.   • MYMNG Photo Contest (May 8-30): Take a photo with the MYMNG flag flying at Glasgow Square Theatre or at Town Hall while lit up pink for Make Your Move Day (May 8 - 11 only) or making your move in your own way any day in May! Submit your photo(s) to from May 8-31 for a chance to win a some Make Your Move New Glasgow swag.
  • Make Your Move Day (May 9)
    • Community Gotcha: Are you making your move on May 9? MYMNG team members will be on the lookout for people moving in New Glasgow. If they “get ya,” you’ll win some MYMNG swag!
    • MYMNG at the New Glasgow Farmers Market: Join us from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to learn more about Make Your Move New Glasgow and sign up for the Make Your Move Movement Challenge!
  • Lunch Time Walks: Celebrate NS Walks Day all month long with weekly 40-minute lunch time walks. Break up your time spent sitting during the work day, or take a walking brain break!

    • May 19 at the North End Recreation Centre Track (534 High Street)
    • May 26 at the S.W. Weeks Sports Complex Track (234 Park Street)

Summer Guided Hike Series

A classic is getting refreshed! Join us for our 2026 Summer Guided Hike Series to discover trails in New Glasgow, Pictou, Pictou Landing First Nation, rural Pictou County, Stellarton, Trenton and Westville and earn the NEW Pictou County Hiker Challenge badge. Don't worry, if you can't make all of our guided hikes you can still earn the badge by completing them on your own time.To register, contact or 902-396-1059.

Pictou County Hike Club

Pictou County Hike Club is a partnership between Make Your Move New Glasgow (Town of New Glasgow), Active Pictou County (Municipality of Pictou County and Town of Pictou) and Westville Recreation (Town of Westville). The group offers welcoming, social and leisurely-paced guided hikes across Pictou County. Join the club on Facebook for hike notices and more!

Hike Nova Scotia Hiker Challenge

The Hiker Challenge is all about inspiring, motivating and rewarding you - especially new and novice hikers - for getting out on Nova Scotia's beautiful trails to start hiking or to hike more. It's tailored to showcase the best of the province while providing helpful and fun challenges in doing so. Your reward for completing each challenge is a badge to show off on clothing or backpacks, as well as being listed on Hike Nova Scotia's Honour Roll. Each season Hike Nova Scotia does a prize draw for a gift card to The Trail Shop, including everyone who has earned a badge in the last three months.

Go Play Pictou County Equipment Loan Program

The GO PLAY Pictou County Equipment Loan Program offers an inventory listing of recreational equipment that is currently available for loan by the various municipal units in Pictou County. Our goal is to promote an active lifestyle while encouraging people to explore our beautiful community.

To borrow a piece of equipment, simply fill out the online form and the appropriate person will be in contact with you.

Hospital & NSH Community Building Walking Routes

Like walking or running and looking for some routes? We partnered with Healthy Pictou County and local illustrator Bonnie Fraser of Sydney and Surrey to prepare some walking routes from the hospital, the NSH Community Buildings, and other businesses and organizations in the area. Visit this page for some routes for a pre-work or post-work run/walk, a little break outside, or a nice evening event or family activity to socialize and be active!
