Corporate emissions breakdownCorporate GHG Emissions Inventory

Since joining the PCP program in 1998, the Town has completed five (5) corporate inventories. The corporate inventory specifically measures emissions that the Town of New Glasgow is accountable for, such as municipal operations and service provision. The Town has corporate inventories for 1990, 1997, 2003, 2011, and fiscal year 2018-19. For the fiscal year 2018-19, the inventory measured municipal operations to be equivalent to 3003.76 tonnes of CO2e (or greenhouse gas emissions) across five sectors: Buildings; Water; Fleet; Streetlights & Traffic Signals; and Water & Wastewater; and Solid Waste.

Corporate Climate Action Plan & GHG Emissions Reduction Targets

In 2020, Town Council approved the Corporate Climate Action Plan 2020-2025. The corporate plan outlines how the Town will reduce energy consumption and emissions from Municipal operations in order to achieve its corporate GHG reduction targets. The Town is committed to reducing corporate emissions by 15% below 2018 levels by 2025, and by 30% below 2018 levels by 2030. These targets will be achieved or exceeded through policies and actions to increase energy efficiency in Town buildings, transitioning the Town fleet to electric vehicles, renewable energy generation, waste diversion and reduction, and organizational and institutional policy change.
