Motor Vehicle Collision results in multiple charges

News Release
On September 2, 2025, at approximately 1:30 PM, New Glasgow Regional Police on routine patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision between a Hyundai Santa Fe, and a GMC Terrain, on East River Road, New Glasgow.
Upon investigation by officers, the driver of the Hyundai Santa Fe, a 47-year-old female from Halifax, was arrested at the scene for impaired operation of a motor vehicle by drug.
A search of the Hyundai Santa Fe, officers located a quantity of cocaine, scales, and packaging material.
Two passengers from the Hyundai Santa Fe, a 43-year-old male from Halifax, and a 44-year-old female from Halifax were also arrested. The 43-year-old male was also wanted on an arrest warrant out of Halifax.
The driver was transported back to New Glasgow Regional Police to complete a drug recognition evaluation coordination testing by a Drug Recognition Expert, where the driver refused.
Rhona Kenny, 47, of Halifax has been charged with the following:
- Impaired operation by drug, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
- Failing to comply with Probation, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal code;
- Refusal to comply with demand, contrary to section 320,15(1) of the Criminal Code;
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the controlled drugs and substances act.
Ryan Andrew Maclean, 43, of Halifax has been charged with the following :
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the controlled drugs and substances act;
- Failing to attend court as ordered, contrary to section 145(2) of the Criminal code;
- Obstructing a peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal code
The 44-year-old female was charged with the following:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the controlled drugs and substances act.
No one was injured in the collision.
The additional female passenger, the 44-year-old woman from Halifax was released from custody and placed on an undertaking, to attend court at a later date.
Ryan Maclean and Rhona Kenny were both remanded into custody to appear in court.
New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate.
