The Saint Andrews Society (SAS) of Pictou County, (originally named the SAS of New Glasgow) is pleased to host its annual Lobster Dinner will take place on Friday, May 30 at Glasgow Square Theatre as one of the many special events connected to and celebrating New Glasow’s year-long 150 anniversary celebrations.

 “We are recognizing this special occasion of the incorporation of New Glasgow as a town, which took place on May 6, 1875," says SAS President Mary Beth Sutherland. "The Saint Andrews Society of New Glasgow was incorporated in 1921, so our Society has had a long and close association with the riverside community. We are pleased to join New Glasgow in celebrating this milestone and recognize New Glasgow has strong Scottish roots as well as many other heritages that make it a flourishing community. All are invited to join us. And we look forward to celebrating the music and songs of the Scots.”

 In addition to the lobster dinner catered by the Pantry Kitchen, there will be entertainment by vocalist Ann Holton and her daughters,  as well as a piper. Trained in classical voice, Ann Holton loves to harness that power, and release it into other styles, particularly folk and theatre. Ann has captivated audiences of music lovers and passionate musicians alike. Growing up with music in her family, Ann has developed a special talent. 

 Mayor Nancy Dicks will also deliver greetings and New Glasgow’s award-winning Town Crier Jim Stewart will offer a cry in full regalia. 

 “We are delighted the Saint Andrew’s Society is hosting their traditional lobster dinner in celebration of our town’s 150th anniversary milestone,” says Mayor Dicks. “New Glasgow’s connection to Scotland is strong. There has been a kinship of significant since the formation of the town and Scottish is one of our proud heritages.” 

 “Dress code is casual dress for this occasion and no formal Scottish attire is necessary, although a bit of tartan wouldn’t hurt,” adds Sutherland. The Reception is from 5:00pm-6:00pm;Dinner  is 6:00pm-7:00pm. Tickets are $50 per person and may be purchased at the UPS Store on Archimedes Street in New Glasgow. There is a chicken dinner substitution available as well. Please indicate your preference when picking up tickets at the UPS Store. Deadline for ticket pick up is on May 23.
