FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Town of New Glasgow Achieves Milestone for Community Climate Change Action Plan
- Details
- Published: Tuesday, 21 February 2023 11:00

(February 21, 2023) - The Town of New Glasgow is proud to announce the achievement of their third milestone through Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) Network by developing a local Community Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP). The PCP Network identifies and celebrates work that municipalities are undertaking to reduce their carbon footprints and promote environmental sustainability through a corporate and community lens.
"We are very pleased to have reached Milestone 3 of the Partners for Climate Protection Network," says Mayor Nancy Dicks, Town of New Glasgow. "This is a huge step forward for the Town in taking ambitious climate action."
In 2022, Town Council approved the Town of New Glasgow’s Community Climate Action Plan. The community plan outlines how the Town will reduce its community emissions by 50% below 2018 levels by 2030. It includes both long-term and short-term goals for achieving significant greenhouse gas reductions across various sectors: Buildings, Transportation, Waste, Policy, Planning & Procedures, Collaboration, Adaptation, & Resilience.
The Community Climate Action Plan includes the implementation of the Town’s Climate Action Volunteer Program, which was launched in 2022. Through this volunteer program, the Town hopes to work with residents, stakeholders, community partners, and businesses to ensure it fosters equity and responds to the current needs of the community.
The Town of New Glasgow has also continued to run the Clean Energy Financing Program since its launch in 2021. The Town of New Glasgow’s Clean Energy Financing Program is in partnership with the Clean Foundation and supports homeowners by making home energy upgrades easy and affordable. The program provides a Certified Home Energy Assessment, expert consultation, and financing to help homeowners make the right choices to improve the comfort and value of their homes and reduce their energy bills.
The Town of New Glasgow is committed to taking further actions as outlined in the Community Climate Action Plan and working diligently towards achieving Milestone 4 - implementing a local climate action plan by 2023.
