Step 5: Enter Project Details

You will be asked to enter basic information about your project. The questions will change depending on the application type you selected.

Building Renovation

Structural Renovation
Select Yes if your project changes walls that support the building, the roof structure, or the foundation (for example: removing a load-bearing wall).

Building Type
Choose the type of building where the work will take place:

  • Single Detached Dwelling: A stand-alone house for one household
  • Accessory Building: A smaller building on the same property as a house (for example: garage, shed, or workshop)
  • Two-Unit Residential: A building with two dwelling units (for example: duplex or house with a secondary suite)
  • Multi-Unit Residential: A building with three or more units (for example: apartment building)
  • Commercial: A building used for business purposes (for example: store, office, or restaurant)
  • Industrial: A building used for manufacturing, storage, or processing
  • Institutional: A public or community building (for example: school, hospital, church, or government building)

Construction Details

Is Deck Included?
Select Yes if your project includes building a new deck or changing an existing one.

Is Ventilation Included?
Select Yes if your project includes installing or changing ventilation (for example: a bathroom fan or kitchen range hood vented outside).

Foundation Alterations?
Select Yes if the foundation will be repaired, replaced, or changed in any way.

Is Plumbing Included?
Select Yes if plumbing work is part of your project (for example: adding a bathroom or moving pipes).

Is Heating Included?
Select Yes if you are installing or changing a heating system.

If Heating is Included - Specify the Heating Type
Enter the type of system being installed (for example: heat pump, electric baseboard, or furnace).

Heritage Properties 

Heritage Conservation District?
Select Yes if your property is located within a Heritage Conservation District. If you are unsure, select No.

Municipally Designated Heritage Property?
Select Yes if the building is municipally designated as a heritage property. If you are unsure, select No.

Provincial Heritage Conservation District?
Select Yes if the property is located within a provincially designated heritage area. If you are unsure, select No.

Additional Building Details (if applicable)

Depending on your project type, you may also be asked to enter:

  • number of units (before and after construction)
  • number of stories or floors
  • building height
  • total floor area
  • basement area
  • addition area
  • building width and length
  • total lot area
  • number of buildings on the lot
  • yard setbacks (front, rear, and side)
  • number of parking spaces

Enter your best estimate if exact measurements are not available. You can update these later if needed.

Existing and Proposed Use (if applicable)

Some projects require information about how the building is being used:

How the building or property will be used after the project is complete

General Project Information

Provide the following details about your project:

Project Description
Enter a short description of the work being completed (for example: building a detached garage, adding a rear deck, or renovating a kitchen). This should match the type of project you selected earlier.

Municipal Water
Select Yes if the property is connected to Town water service.
Select No if the property uses a private well.

Municipal Sewer
Select Yes if the property is connected to Town sewer service.
Select No if the property uses a private septic system.

Street Access
Select how vehicles reach your property from the street (for example: driveway access from a municipal road).

Another Building on Lot
Select Yes if there is already another building on the property (for example: a house, garage, or shed).
Select No if the lot is vacant.

If Yes - Describe the Other Building
Briefly describe the existing building (for example: single detached house, detached garage, or storage shed).

Estimated Project Costs
Enter the estimated cost of the project. Include materials and labour.
