Doug Dort - (1947-2024)

Doug_Dort.jpeg

The Town of New Glasgow is deeply saddened by the passing of former Fire Chief Doug Dort. Doug dedicated many years of service to our community, beginning as a paid-hourly member of the Fire Department and rising through the ranks to serve as both Deputy Chief and, ultimately, Fire Chief. Prior to his fire career, Doug also served as a constable with the New Glasgow Regional Police Department.

Throughout his career, Doug's leadership, dedication, and tireless commitment to the safety and well-being of our residents made a lasting impact on the Town of New Glasgow. On behalf of the entire community, we extend our deepest condolences to Doug's family, friends and colleagues. He will truly be missed.

You’re invited - Stewart St. Heritage Site New Panel Unveiling

Stewart_St_New_Panel.jpg

The unveiling of the new Stewart St. Heritage Site interpretative panel will take place on November 8, 2024, at 3 p.m., across the street from Central Cabs at 294 Stewart St., New Glasgow. This site is in honour of the veterans who lived in this area and fought in World War II. There are 41 names that represent most aspects of the Canadian Armed Forces during the 1939-1945 campaign. We ask the citizens of New Glasgow, Pictou County and beyond, to review this new panel graphic and the veterans' names to see if they are family members and descendants of these brave soldiers. We hope to see you there!
