Coyote Safety

Dear New Glasgow community,

To keep our neighbourhoods safe from encounters with wildlife, it is crucial that we all step in and work together to minimize the impact of human actions and their impact on wildlife around us.

Here are some simple steps you can take to keep animals like coyotes away from our neighbourhoods.

  • Do not feed the deer in your neighbourhood. Doing so may increase the deer population, inviting wild animals like coyotes, natural predators, to feed on the deer.
  • Do not leave open trash or food in your lawns, yards or outside garbage bins.
  • Tall grass creates hiding spots for wild animals. Mow your lawn frequently so that it does not act as a cover spot for wild animals while hunting.
  • Keep an eye on your pets when they are outside. Unattended pets can become easy targets for wildlife.

Let us all work collectively to keep our community safe.
