Doug Dort - (1947-2024)

Doug_Dort.jpeg

The Town of New Glasgow is deeply saddened by the passing of former Fire Chief Doug Dort. Doug dedicated many years of service to our community, beginning as a paid-hourly member of the Fire Department and rising through the ranks to serve as both Deputy Chief and, ultimately, Fire Chief. Prior to his fire career, Doug also served as a constable with the New Glasgow Regional Police Department.

Throughout his career, Doug's leadership, dedication, and tireless commitment to the safety and well-being of our residents made a lasting impact on the Town of New Glasgow. On behalf of the entire community, we extend our deepest condolences to Doug's family, friends and colleagues. He will truly be missed.

Stewart_St_New_Panel.jpg

The unveiling of the new Stewart St. Heritage Site interpretative panel will take place on November 8, 2024, at 3 p.m., across the street from Central Cabs at 294 Stewart St., New Glasgow. This site is in honour of the veterans who lived in this area and fought in World War II. There are 41 names that represent most aspects of the Canadian Armed Forces during the 1939-1945 campaign. We ask the citizens of New Glasgow, Pictou County and beyond, to review this new panel graphic and the veterans' names to see if they are family members and descendants of these brave soldiers. We hope to see you there!

Trail Advisory - Samson Trail

The Town of New Glasgow wishes to advise that starting November 1, 2024, the Samson Trail will be closed periodically between Milne Street and Beck's Hill to remove a large dead tree. The contractors will manage the closure as required for safety.

Trail users are advised to proceed with caution as equipment and workers will be present on the trail.

Fireworks Advisory - Abercrombie Road

The Town of New Glasgow wishes to advise residents that a fireworks display has been authorized to be held on Thursday, October 31st, 2024, at 7:45 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church on Abercrombie Road.

Pets and animals: Fireworks can be very distressing for pets. Please keep your animals indoors and create a safe, quiet space for them during the show. Consider playing some soothing music to help calm them.

Individuals with sensory sensitivities: Fireworks can be overwhelming for those with sensory sensitivities. If you or someone you know may be affected, consider using earplugs and watching from a distance or moving to a quieter area.

General safety tips:
Keep a safe distance from the fireworks launch site.
Follow all instructions from event organizers and safety personnel.
Keep an eye on children and ensure they stay in designated viewing areas.
We hope you enjoy the show safely and responsibly!
