New Glasgow Fire Department Santa Claus Parade

New Glasgow, November 20, 2025:

The New Glasgow Fire Department is proud to announce the return of a beloved community tradition - the 2025 New Glasgow Fire Department Santa Claus Parade, taking place on Saturday, November 29, at 5:30 p.m.

This year’s parade will once again bring the sights and sounds of the holiday season to the streets of downtown New Glasgow, featuring festive floats, community groups, local organizations, and special guests.

The Honorary Parade Marshals for this year’s event are Henderson and Carol Paris, recognized for their decades of leadership, dedication, and community impact”. With the New Glasgow 150 “Tribute to the Legacy of the Run Against Racism and Henderson Paris” held earlier this year - and marking 35 years since the Run Against Racism first began - the committee felt it was especially fitting to celebrate their ongoing influence by having them lead this year’s parade.

“The Santa Claus Parade is one of the most cherished events in our community — a time for families, friends, and neighbours to come together and celebrate the joy of the season,” said New Glasgow Mayor Nancy Dicks. “As we continue to mark New Glasgow’s 150th anniversary, we are truly honoured to have Henderson and Carol Paris lead this year’s parade as our Honorary Parade Marshals. Their leadership, compassion, and commitment to community have made a lasting difference in New Glasgow and beyond.”

"I would like to extend a very special holiday invitation to all local businesses, industries, schools, church and social groups, and local citizens to enter the New Glasgow Fire and Rescue Santa Claus Parade this year, and to support and help make this parade the best Santa Claus Parade ever - not only for the Christmas season and holidays, but also in celebration of the Town of New Glasgow and our 150th year celebrations," said Art MacLean, Co-Chair of the New Glasgow Fire Department Santa Claus Parade Committee.

"The Santa Claus Parade is such a special time for our community. It’s a chance for families, neighbours, and visitors to come together and celebrate the joy of the season. We can’t wait to see everyone along the route, smiling, waving, and sharing in the magic of Christmas." said Trevor MacDonald, Co-Chair of the New Glasgow Fire Department Santa Claus Parade Committee.

The parade route will begin on Granville Street, continue along East River Road, proceed onto Archimedes Street, and finish on Provost Street. To ensure an inclusive experience for all residents, a Sensory-Friendly Zone will be designated from Granville Street to Frederick Street, offering a quieter viewing area for those who prefer reduced sound and lights.

Registration is now open for parade participants, including local businesses, schools, community groups, and organizations interested in entering a float, walking group, or vehicle. Interested participants can register online via the Town of New Glasgow Facebook page, or by contacting .

Unveiling of David MacIntosh’s Painting

New Glasgow, November 18, 2025:

A painting by renowned artist David MacIntosh was unveiled at the November Council Meeting of the Town of New Glasgow as part of the town’s 150th anniversary celebrations. David MacIntosh is a self-taught artist born and raised in New Glasgow who has gained national recognition. MacIntosh’s main inspiration is the early work of European masters, which blends impressive oil technical proficiency and representational accuracy with majestic emotional intensity.

“David MacIntosh’s painting for the New Glasgow 150 Anniversary celebration pays tribute to New Glasgows picturesque riverside setting and homage to the river (Amasipukwejk) as the lifeblood of the community and a community gathering place,” states New Glasgow Mayor Nancy Dicks. “It features the picturesque beauty of our fresh water/saltwater river, a regal eagle, an historical symbol of strength and wisdom as a salute to our storied history and a salmon, a symbol of preservation and renewal as we begin another chapter.  Both the eagle and fish in general are revered symbols of nature in many cultures. The painting also gives tribute to New Glasgow’s industrial past, its role as a mercantile centre and its current role as a commercial service centre and community gathering place.”

David’s work was first commissioned by the Town of New Glasgow for a heritage painting series in the early 2000s.  The series have included town pioneers and leaders such as New Glasgow’s first mayor Adam Carr Bell, human rights activist Dr, Carrie Best, ship builder James William Carmichael, social activist Caroline Carmichael; first female and longest serving mayor, Mayor Ann MacLean, and Henderson Paris, human rights leader. Paintings in the series also highlight heritage streetscapes, the ship building history of New Glasgow, picturesque landscapes and historical structures such as the first hospital and former train station.  His works have also featured the Ship Hector and have been sold to visitors from around the world. MacIntosh was also commissioned jointly by the Town of New Glasgow and the Province of Nova Scotia in 2010 to paint a portrait of human rights activist Viola Desmond which is on display in Government House.
