New Glasgow to Welcome Kori Cheverie Home with Walter Cup Parade and Community Meet & Greet

July 9, 2026, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia - The Town of New Glasgow and community partners are inviting residents to celebrate New Glasgow’s own Kori Cheverie as she brings the Walter Cup home on Friday, July 17, 2026.

The celebration will begin with Kori’s Walter Cup Parade at 11:00 a.m., departing from Provost Street, New Glasgow.

The procession will depart on Provost Street, continue southbound on Provost Street, turn left onto Jury Street, turn left and travel northbound on Archimedes Street, turn left and travel southbound on North Provost Street, turn right onto George Street, turn left onto Stellarton Road, and continue slightly right, southwest onto Westville Road, ending at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, 2756 Westville Road.

Following the procession, community members are invited to the Pictou County Wellness Centre for a public meet and greet with Kori from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Residents will have the opportunity to meet Kori, take photos with the Walter Cup, and bring items to be autographed.

“This is a very special moment for New Glasgow and all of Pictou County,” said Mayor Nancy Dicks. “Kori Cheverie continues to be an inspiration both on and off the ice. Her leadership, dedication and accomplishments are something our entire community can be proud of and we are thrilled to welcome her home.”

To help everyone celebrate safely, this event will be a procession rather than a traditional parade.

Coach Kori Cheverie and the Walter Cup will travel through New Glasgow in a vehicle escorted by New Glasgow Police.  Police vehicles will lead and follow the procession while officers temporarily manage traffic at intersections to allow the procession to move safely along the route.

There will be no road closures.  Motorists may experience brief delays at some intersections while the procession passes and are asked to follow the directions of police officers.

We encourage everyone who wishes to celebrate to gather safely along the route to cheer on Coach Cheverie and view the Walter Cup as it passes by.  Please watch from sidewalks or other safe viewing areas and avoid standing on roadways or in locations that could create a safety risk.  We also ask that spectators be mindful of nearby businesses, homes, and driveways, and avoid blocking entrances or access routes. These measures are intended to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone while minimizing disruption to the community.

Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to celebrating this special occasion together.
